Rob’s Work Has Already Made The Difference Across America:
Throughout 2023, Rob initiated the only movement and work in the 118th U.S. Congress by fighting to introduce, and accelerate passage of federal legislation in the 118th U.S. Congress legalizing Fentanyl Test Strips nationwide. Rob's hard, relentless work on behalf of Marylanders, especially unsuspecting, innocent teens, youth and students, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-MD-8) co-sponsored the legislation Rob championed in the 118th U.S. Congress: S.2569, the Fentanyl Safe Testing and Overdose Prevention Act.
The Impact: Fentanyl Test Strips are supported by an overwhelming majority of Maryland families, President Joe Biden, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and a rapidly growing number of U.S. Senators and Representatives from Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
Why this matters: Because fentanyl test strips are a proven tool that unsuspecting, innocent teens and students can use to prevent their poisoning and accidental death from fentanyl laced pills and substances they think are free of fentanyl.
We’re saving lives: A joint research study by Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health and Brown University revealed the efficacy in fentanyl test strip use in detecting fentanyl in a counterfeit pill is 97%.
Equally important, teens and students who tested for the first time were more likely to NOT try an unprescribed pill or drug thereafter! Leading physicians, health care providers, and U.S. Congressional Members fully support Rob's leadership in having begun this advocacy, particularly when many of the vaunted national corporations and special interest groups ran from this long-overdue life and death initiative protecting teens.
